The Twilight star will be portraying the Silly Putty-like action
hero in the upcoming 3D flick which is set to hit theaters later
this year.

“In the past two years, Taylor has emerged as a real star at the
global box office,” says a rep for Universal Pictures.

“He brings the perfect balance of energy and athleticism to the
role of an unlikely super hero with a fantastic super power. We
couldn’t be more pleased that he has agreed to be our Stretch.”

Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie Sue Over Split Story…

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have issued a legal statement
asserting that they are not about to split.

The couple’s lawyer, Keith Schilling, said Monday that the pair
had commenced proceedings against Britain’s News of the World
for making “false allegations about their relationship,” and
said that the reports are not true.

“We can confirm unequivocally … that the allegations published
by the News of the World are false as well as intrusive,” said
Schilling in a statement.

The U.K. paper had reported that Brad and Angelina had met with
a divorce lawyer and were headed for a split.

According to Schilling, Sorrell Trope, who was, identified in
some media reports as the lawyer representing the couple,
submitted a statement saying, “I have had no contact from
them … Angelina Jolie and/or Brad Pitt. I have never met
your … clients or had any involvement with either of them.”

When news broke of a possible impending split between the
superstar couple, sources close to them said that the
story was not true.

On Sunday, Brad and Angelina publicly showed their affection
for each other by kissing, cuddling and cheering when they
took son Maddox to the Super Bowl.

Lipstick Jungle Star Andrew McCarthy Detained in Ethiopia…

Andrew McCarthy had a harrowing experience while on assignment
for the travel magazine Afar recently, as he was escorted at
gunpoint out of an historic underground church for intruding
without documentation.

On the second day of his visit, having already witnessed an
exorcism at the famed Lalibela church, Andrew was accosted by
a guard. The star of NBC’s Lipstick Jungle had bought a ticket
to visit Lalibela, but had left it in his hotel.

“His gun [was] pointed at my back,” Andrew writes. “I thought
his reaction to my offense was extreme; I tried to say as much.
He grunted something in Amharic and prodded me with the tip of
his rifle.”

Outside the church, with help from some locals, he was soon
freed, but the incident left him shaken. “I tried to breathe,”
he writes.

The assignment for Afar, whose new issue goes on sale Tuesday,
was one of a series in which the editors literally spin a
globe and pick a destination at random for the reporter. The
incident at Lalibela “was just the kind of thing that happens
when you show up alone in a distant country without a plan,”
Andrew writes.

Andrew Shue and Today’s Amy Robach Are Married…

Former Melrose Place star Andrew Shue and Weekend Today anchor
Amy Robach were married in New York City.

“It was the most beautiful night in every way,” Andrew and Amy
said. “Despite snow, high winds, flight and train delays, every
guest made it to the night to share our in our new beginning.”

The couple, who met last April at a book party and got engaged
in September, exchanged vows at The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers,
adjacent to the Hudson River. And it was an extra special
occasion for Robach, who walked down the aisle on her 37th
birthday. Shue’s mother, Anne Harms, officiated the ceremony,
and the two wrote their own vows.

Andrew and Amy are recently divorced, and the wedding party
consisted of Shue’s three sons with ex-wife Jennifer Hageney
and Robach’s two daughters with her ex-husband, Tim McIntosh.

“The wedding was absolutely beautiful,” a Today show rep, who
attended the ceremony, says. “Amy and Andrew were beaming.”

Miley Cyrus Organizes Celebrity Online Auction for Haiti…

Miley Cyrus has recruited her celebrity pals for a star-studded
online auction to benefit earthquake relief efforts in Haiti.

“Ever since the earthquake, I’ve been trying to do my part to
helpthe people of Haiti – and I wanted to do more,” Miley Says.

Starting Feb. 8, fans can go to Ebay.com/Miley to bid on the
Herve Leger dress the singer wore to the Jan. 31 Grammy Awards as
well as two tickets to the Hollywood premiere of her upcoming film,
The Last Song.

Miley’s recruited a bevy of famous friends to chip in too: Nicole
Richie donated jewelry from her House of Harlow line and Britney
Spears offered up the custom silver Versace minidress she wore to
2008’s MTV Video Music Awards.

“Everyone has been so generous,” says Miley. “My mom and I started
calling and texting all of our friends to see if they’d like to be
a part of the auction. Demi [Lovato] was one of thefirst to respond.
Hugh Jackman was also excited to donate something.”

As for Richie’s contribution, Miley says she relied on some
technology to reach out to her. “I texted Nicole and right away
she sent over some amazing jewelry and Joel [Madden] sent some
of his clothes.”

With all proceeds going to the American Red Cross to support
emergency relief efforts in Haiti, “I want to get people involved
and show that even the little things you can do can make a
difference,” Miley says.

It’s Kristen Stewart…

Kristen was in Los Angeles Superior Court earlier this week for
jury duty and was happy to join a security guard and his pal
for an impromptu snap.

But the picture has landed the unidentified guard in trouble,
after it was posted online by his pal’s wife.

She hastily removed the photo from the Web, stating, “Canceled
because unfortunately the photo that went up from Kristen in
court was stolen and put on several blogs and got to the media
(the press) and reached the ears of the court. Right now my
husband and the security guard are in trouble for it having
gone up and second because it is confidential when celebrities
are in court.”

Kind-hearted Kristen is hopeful the picture leak won’t land her
fans in trouble, but she fears the worst.

She says, “Now I feel bad. … I am really scared, because I
think it is possible that they could lose their jobs.”
