The sun won’t rise on the citizens of Oakdale, Illinois, come
2011. The soap opera As the World Turns will be end its 54-
year-run in September 2010.
Bowed down by declining ratings among daytime soaps in general,
the longrunning series, which is filmed in New York City, will
draw the curtains for the final time on Sept. 17. Only three
months ago, and almost exactly a year before that, the 72-
year-old soap Guiding Light broadcast its final episode.
Many of the castmembers of As the World Turns have gone on to
have notable careers in film, including James Earl Jones,
Marisa Tomei, Meg Ryan and Parker Posey.

Tiger Woods’s Mother-in-Law Released From Hospital…
Barbro Holmberg, mother-in-law to embattled golfer Tiger Woods,
was released from a hospital Tuesday afternoon and is now
recuperating at Tiger’s home in Windermere, Florida.
According to Health Central Hospital spokesman Dan Yates,
Barbro, left the facility around 2 p.m. in a wheelchair,
which is standard procedure in most hospitals. He said she
was back at Tiger’s home.
Barbro, a politician in Sweden, was taken to the Ocoee, Fla.,
hospital after a 911 call at 2:35 a.m. Tuesday, and was
admitted after complaining of stomach pain. Around midday, her
daughter and Tiger’s wife, Elin Nordegren, arrived at the
hospital with a bag.
Elin is one of Barbro’s three children with her former husband,
journalist Thomas Nordegren. Barbro, a member of the Social
Democratic party, served as minister of migration and asylum
from 2003 to 2006.

Full House Star Targeted by Extortionists…
John Stamos says he was targeted by a pair of alleged
blackmailers who threatened to sell so-called compromising
photos of him unless he coughed up $680,000.
Allison Coss, 23, and Scott Sippola, 30, of Marquette,
Mich., were arrested last week in an FBI sting operation
after they met with an undercover agent, posing as a John
representative, to collect their money in a Michigan airport,
according to a Dec 3 FBI affidavit.
After police raided their home, they discovered three photos
of John, a piece of paper with the actor’s personal cell
phone number on it, and a list of three tabloid magazines
with contact numbers for each.
John, described as “Mr. X” in affidavit, was vacationing
in Florida in 2004 when he met Coss. At the time, the pair and
another pal attended a party where photos were allegedly taken
of the former Full House star, 46.
Following the party, the actor stayed in touch via email with
Coss, according to the FBI.
Last month, John began receiving email threats from a person
named “Brian L” who allegedly demanded $680,000 from Stamos
or else the photos would be sold to a tabloid. In emails, Coss
alerted John that she was involved in the plot.
The affidavit did not describe the photos, but John was told
they would “cause harm” to his reputation if released. (No word
whether the photos were taken before or after he and actress
Rebecca Romijn announced their split that year.)

Uma Thurman Calls Off Engagement…
Uma broke off her year-long engagement to Swiss multimillionaire
Arpad “Arki” Busson on Nov. 15. “The engagement ended awhile back,
almost two months ago,” says a source. “They remain friends.”
The couple began dating in the summer of 2007, and one year later,
Busson proposed with an 8-plus carat engagement ring. Just don’t
expect to see that ring on Uma’s finger anytime soon. “She will
probably give it back,” says the source. “She wants to return
everything that is his.”
Perhaps their long-distance love affair was a factor. In September,
Uma, admitted she wasn’t planning to marry her London-based fiancé
anytime soon. “I’m happily engaged but we haven’t set a wedding up,”
she said. “I’m not in a rush to do anything. One day we’ll do it,
when we’re ready. We can’t live anywhere else because my children’s
father lives here. We’ll figure it out.”
Apparently, Busson is “beside himself” that they weren’t able to
figure things out.
The businessman has two sons with his former flame, supermodel Elle
MacPherson, and Uma has a son and daughter with ex-husband
Ethan Hawke.

Dean McDermott: Tori Spelling & Mom Reconciling…
After years of feuding, Tori Spelling and her mother Candy Spelling
are putting their differences aside for the sake of Tori’s kids.
“They have been in communications,” Tori’s husband Dean McDermott
said at ABC Family’s World Record Elf Party on Monday in New York
City. “Candy has seen the kids, which is what this is all about.”
Tori, 36, and Candy, 64, have had a long-standing feud since family
patriarch Aaron Spelling died two years ago. Both wrote tell-all
books, each taking jabs at each other. Tori said she and her “simply
never meshed.”
And earlier this year Candy wrote a public letter to Tori in response
to the season finale of her reality show Tori & Dean: Home Sweet
Hollywood. In the finale, Tori agonizes about inviting Candy to her
daughter’s first birthday party. (Candy doesn’t show.)
Instead, Candy accused her daughter of using her grandchildren Liam,
2, and Stella, 1, as “reality-show props.”
For now, it appears the ice has melted on their relationship. As for
more details, Dean says his family is staying mum. “We are keeping
all this private like it should be,” he says.

It’s Brad Pitt…
Brad, who famously starred in 1994’s “Interview with the Vampire,”
is set to produce a new picture called “Vlad,” which tells the story
of the young Count Dracula.
The movie will reportedly focus on Dracula as a young prince and
incorporate the true tale of Vlad the Impaler, the Romanian ruler
said to have inspired Bram Stoker’s legendary vampire.
Brad’s Plan B production company has joined forces with Summit
Entertainment, the studio behind the massively popular “Twilight”
franchise, for the venture.
Famed music video director Anthony Mandler, who has worked with
Rihanna, The Killers and Eminem, is said to be in negotiations to
helm the picture, according to MovieHole.net. It is not yet known
whether Pitt will take a starring role in the film.
