Sam Mendes To Bring Comic Book ‘Preacher’ To The Screen…

Sam Mendes has been named as the man to take Preacher, one
of the most acclaimed comic book series ever, to the big screen.

The 75-issue series, created by writer Garth Ennis and artist
Steve Dillon, tells of Jesse Custer, a preacher from a small
Texan town who becomes imbued with the word of God.

First published in 1995, with its final issue hitting the shelves
in July 2000, the comic saw Custer, his estranged girlfriend
Tulip O’Hare and his best friend Cassidy, an Irish vampire,
traveling across America to find God and bring him to justice
for deserting mankind.

And now Columbia Pictures and Mendes are developing a big screen
version of the award-winning comic, according to Variety.

The beloved graphic novel series has long been linked with a film
adaptation, with James Marsden at one time reportedly attached to
play Jesse.

Rumors began in May 2006 that Mark Steven Johnson was planning a
television series based on Preacher for the HBO network, with one-
hour episodes for each issue, though it emerged in August that HBO
had turned down the adaptation on the basis of its violent and
controversial content.

Are Plans In Place for A ‘Melrose’ Comeback?…

Popular 1990s soap opera “Melrose Place” is reportedly
set to follow in the footsteps of “Beverly Hills, 90210″
with a return to the small screen.

Word is execs of the show, which starred Heather Locklear and
launched the careers of Marcia Cross and Kristin Davis, are
working on an updated version of the series.

The show ran from 1992 to 1999 and was notorious for its
sensationalist storylines and extravagant characters.

The move to bring it back comes after the “Beverly Hills, 90210″
spin-off hit screens over the summer. Both series were produced
by late TV mogul Aaron Spelling.

Former “Melrose Place” star Lisa Rinna has fueled reports of a
comeback, saying, “I’ve heard a rumor of them bringing back the
show like they did ‘90210.’”

The Sopranos Wine… Drink It Or Else…

Hit TV series ‘The Sopranos’ may be off the air, but a group
of wine makers are bottling up its success and putting it on
shelves.

Sopranos Wines are being produced under a licensing agreement
between TV network HBO and New-York based Vesuvio Import Company.

A network spokesperson says: “We feel that these quality Italian
wines are the perfect complement to all of our other carefully
planned product extensions for The Sopranos brand.”

The line will feature wines including Chianti, Pinot Grigio and
Pinot Noir, made from various Italian wineries.

Nicolas Cage To Sell Haunted New Orleans Home…

Nicolas Cage is ready to spook home-buyers after putting his
“haunted” New Orleans home back on the market.

Cage has listed the French Quarter mansion - considered the “Most
Haunted House in America” - for $3.7 million, according to a
posting on Realtor.com.

The house is the third Cage has currently put up for sale - in
addition to his homes in Rhode Island and Bel Air, California,
priced $15.9 million and $30 million respectively.

Angelina Humbled By Suffering In Afghanistan…

Angelina Joie was humbled by her recent trip to Afghanistan,
because experiencing the strife in the war-torn country has
shown her what “real suffering” is.

She flew to Afghanistan last week as part of her role as a Goodwill
Ambassador for the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

During her visit, she met refugees who had just returned to their
homeland to rebuild their lives following the downfall of the
Taliban regime in 2001.

And the trip has left a lasting impression on Jolie. She says,
“After seeing real suffering, you never complain anymore.”

It’s Gwyneth Paltrow… Batali and Paltrow were shooting
scenes for their new Spanish food and travel show “Spain …
on the Road Again” when the chef pulled over to pick up a
stranded tourist, under protest from Gwyneth.

Batali says, “Gwyneth was really nervous but it was just our
friend Michael Stipe — I had invited him (along) to surprise
her. We got her good.”
